Reverend Joyce Cravens

I have served Webb Chapel United Methodist Church for seven years. It is my honor to be among a fine lineage of pastors, beginning with Isaac Webb. He gave his home (a log cabin) to be the first church in Dallas County in 1845. Subsequently, Webb Chapel Road was named for the church and Webb Chapel Cemetery began placing tombstones. In 1903 the church moved to its present location at 2536 Valley View Lane. The little white frame building is long gone. The sanctuary today has, as its ceiling, the wood from the little church of 1903. What a legacy to be here at this place, in this town, on this block for over 100 years!

This makes me think of Isaac Webb and his vision for Webb Chapel. Are we living up to his vision and dream for the church? God must have called Isaac Webb to ministry and mission. Are we, as the church living out that call. My answer is yes. And so have all the other pastors who have preceded me. Webb Chapel UMC is about legacy living. That means we are matching our hopes and dreams of our past with the present. We are not leaving a legacy as much as we are living a legacy. We are inviting…fishing for people. We are reaching out to others less fortunate with food from the Galilee Food Pantry. We teach and tutor the Hispanic children in our neighborhood. We have Bible studies, prayer groups, and support mission work all over the world.

Come join in legacy living at Webb Chapel United Methodist Church. Would you like to make a change in your life and add church-going for your family? Do you have hopes and dreams for you and your community? Come worship with us, be in mission and ministry with us, and come fishing with us!
